Requirements for the minor in
APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY, 2023-2024
The Applied Psychology minor consists of 20 upper-division units, with courses distributed as
indicated below. Courses may be taken in any order. All courses applied to the minor must be
completed with a letter grade ‘C’ or higher, and no more than 5 units may be graded Pass/No
Pass (P/NP). Please note unit variability between courses as this may impact your minor unit total.
UPPER-DIVISION
20 UD units are required, distributed as follows:
I. Core
CNCSP 101 ............................................................................................ 4 _____
CNCSP 102 ............................................................................................. 4 _____
II. Elective
To bring total to 20 UD units
CNCSP 104, 110, 111, 112, 114, W 116, 117, 118, 122, 132, 190 (also cross-listed as ED
190), 197*, 199**, 199RA**
ED 111, 125, 199**, 199RA** ................................................................ 12 _____
*Students may apply a maximum of 8 units of CNCSP 197 toward the elective requirement;
however, the two 4-unit CNCSP 197 courses must be on different topics taught by different
instructors and not merely a repetition of the same 197 course by the same instructor
**Students may apply 4 units of CNCSP or ED 199 or 199RA toward the elective
requirement. These units must be taken for a letter grade to be considered. Students
must complete an ED 199/199RA substitution form to verify the independent
study/research is relevant to the minor.
Substitutions Policy: Community College and other lower-division courses may NOT be used as
substitutions for any minor courses. Six upper-division quarter units may be transferred from a
college or university other than UCSB if the minor advisor approves the units.
Students must consult the General Catalog for prerequisites to required courses.
The following conditions must also be met for official recognition of the minor:
The sponsoring department reports completion of the minor prior to the posting of the degree.
At least 20 upper-division quarter units are completed for the minor. (Waivers cannot reduce the
requirement below this number.)
At least 14 of the upper-division units for the minor are completed while in residence at UCSB.
No more than 5 upper-division units overlap between this minor and the upper-division portion of the
major(s) or other minor(s). If overlap is greater with the major(s), completion of the minor will not be
formally recognized; if overlap with other minor(s) is greater, only the first minor reported will be
recognized.
