Northwood has been practicing mindfulness with our students. To learn more about this program from Inner Explorer and
to find more resources, including books for parents and students, please visit them at www.InnerExplorer.org. Many
parents have requested access to the program so that they could use it at home as a family. Once you are logged in your
entire family can use this program regardless of their age or school of enrollment. If you wish to avail this program, please

FIFTH GRADE - Students enjoyed an in-house field trip with Vicki Culbreth, a
microorganism specialist. 5
th
graders enjoyed using their knowledge of microorganisms to
solve a mystery involving disease in England.
This week FOURTH GRADE visited the Teaching Museum to learn about the
Revolutionary War. Students had a fantastic time creating their own secret codes to
hide into an actual button, just like George Washington and others did at the time.
Several students were also invited on stage to take part in a role play as we learned
about a colonial family living in the 1750s.
Northwood Elementary Physical Education
As part of your child’s Physical Education program, Northwood Elementary School is preparing to
participate in the FITNESSGRAM physical fitness assessment. The FITNESSGRAM is a comprehensive
fitness assessment for youth. It is designed to assess cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and
endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
This is a pre-assessment to collect data and help set fitness goals for the students. The FITNESSGRAM
post-test will be administered in Spring 2020. If you have any questions about the FITNESSGRAM
assessment, feel free to contact me at pearchm@fultonschools.org. For information regarding the
FITNESSGRAM assessment, please refer to www.FITNESSGRAM.net/faqparents.

Clipping Box Tops or (new to this year) scanning your receipts directly in the Box Tops 4
Education app are two very easy ways to help Northwood earn cash. Last school year we earned
$1,024.70! For the box tops that still need to be clipped, clip and trim them, send them to school
in a small snack size bag. Have your child hand them in to the teacher for submission. We will
have two collection dates this school year: October 18
th
and February 18
th
.
The new and improved way of collecting Box Tops is via an app you can download on your phone. Look for
BoxTops4Education. In a few easy steps, you can set up your account and link it to Northwood Elementary (make sure to
pick the right one as there are more than you could imagine). Once you have this set up, each time you shop/buy items
that participate in Box Tops you have 14 days of receipt to scan in the app and have the earnings applied directly to our
school.
Please contact Marlen Benitez via email at bo[email protected] if you have any questions.
