Seasons Greetings from our Superintendent
I am sure that all of you are looking forward to the Holidays this year. 2020 has been a year like no
other and I see the toll it has taken on our families and staff. It is my sincere hope that all of you

on Netflix, play some games as a family, whatever it is that you enjoy. Thank you all for your sup-
port and hard work this fall as we worked to have students in buildings. It has been an adventure,
but we are grateful to see students in classrooms and we look forward to their return after break.

The Fundraisers and
Sales:
The NL FFA has many fund -
raisers and sales throughout
the school year. They benefit
the members and animals, and
c
an help assist the due fee
along with costs. The FFA sold
mums, fruit and cheesecakes,
subs and pretzel sandwiches,
along with poinsettias and
homemade wreaths. Through -
out the years, many of the
fundraisers have stayed the
same, but as a group, we are
working on adding new things
and becoming more creative.
The Food Drive:
This holiday season the NL
FFA and the NL Student
Council are coming together to
c
ollect canned and preserved
food items for the JOY Food
Pantry. This is a fun way and
a friendly competition
between all homerooms to
provide a holiday meal for
those who need it most.
The FFA Christmas
Party:
This year’s NL FFA Christmas
party might look a little differ-
e
nt than previous years, but
our chapter is putting on two
different Christmas parties for
each group of students who
come different days. We will
still have food, fun, and
games. All you have to do is
pay your FFA dues to partici-
pate in all of the holiday fun!
We hope to see you there!

MIDDLE SCHOOL
The 6th grade ELA students were given an
opportunity to help with a huge, altruistic project
created by former Jonestown Elementary teacher,
R
ita White and her family. Rita’s son, Kevin, was
sent to Kuwait with the PA guards for a nine-
month deployment and she wanted to send
Christmas stockings to him and his troop for
Christmas. She didn’t know at the time that she
would have to send 1,300 stockings to complete
her project. Rita and her family accepted the
challenge and bought supplies and goodies to fill
the 1,300 stockings. Then with help from family
and friends; made all the stockings out of recy-
cled Christmas cards. She then reached out to
various teachers to have their students write out
index cards with special messages to the troops.
That’s where 6th grade came in. Along with the
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Jonestown, 6th
graders wrote over 140 positive and supportive
messages for the
troops. They were
extremely honored
and excited to be
part of such an
amazing project!

The Northern
Lebanon Wellness
Group helped the
JOY Pantry by
donating 245
pounds of food
in October.
The Joy Pantry’s mission is to ease the
struggles of the working poor and to
make sure no one in our community
goes to bed hungry. This past year JOY
Pantry helped 2,662 individuals, includ-
ing 928 children. They also helped 48
new families in the Northern Lebanon
School District. They’ve been averaging
86 households each month.
The Northern Lebanon Wellness Group

Driver Safety Education
On the tenth of November, Traci
Linn from the Center for Traffic
Safety gave an informative presenta-
tion to all Driver and Safety
Education students. This powerful
presentation gave the students the
real-life dangers of distracted driv-
ing. The students were moved as
she shared her personal and emotional story of her son who was
killed in a car crash.
Students in Mrs. Plummer’s classes will be participating in a county-
wide billboard challenge that focuses on discouraging aggressive and
distracted driving as well as promoting seat belt use. In March
through May, the Center for Traffic Safety will be on school grounds
observing and monitoring whether drivers and passengers are wearing
seatbelts as they enter and exit school property.

variety of books offered at
the fall Scholastic Book Fair.
With so many titles to

away with some great

always have a “place to go” when you are reading a book!

World Kindness Day is celebrated on
November 13. Second graders in Ms.
Isbell’s class talked about the importance
of being a kind and caring student.
World Kindness Day is a day to celebrate
kind things that are done each day in
our communities. People encourage
others to be kind and show that it makes
such a difference in the world. Students
spent time sharing new ideas for how to
be kind and writing Kindness Cards for
family members.

In February of 2020, the 5th Grade
studied two sculptors, plaster caster
George Segal and mobile inventor
Alexander Calder. We combined our
knowledge of the two artists into
“Proud to Be Vikes,a sign-language

elements. Students plaster cast one
student volunteer’s arms and hands
in sign language positions, manufac-
tured letter forms out of cardboard

This Halloween in Mrs. McCarrick’s 3rd grade class, the students worked on persuasive writing to try and sell their

All Votes Count at Fredericksburg Elementary!
On Tuesday, November 3rd, while the entire country voted for the next president of the
United States, students at Fredericksburg Elementary School also had a chance to make
their vote count. Although no student is eligible to vote in the real election, we decided to
have students learn about the importance of voting by participating in a mock presiden-
tial election. Students created their own voter registration card to bring to vote, they were required to sign in when
reporting to the polling station, students were then directed to a private booth to cast their ballot, and after casting
their vote they received an “I voted” sticker to proudly wear all day long. Votes were tallied and by the end of the day
the students heard who Fredericksburg Elementary School elected as the next president of the United States. This
activity got the students aware of the election and voting process and peaked their interest to then go home and hear
if the candidate who won at school, also won America’s vote. The goal of this day was to make the students aware of
how important it is to vote and have your voice heard!

FREDERICKSBURG FOCUS
On December 3rd, All first graders participated in a Fredericksburg tradition: painting giant ornaments to hang from
the ceiling in the hallway. Students used their creativity and art skills to decorate the different ornaments any way
they chose. As they shared watercolor paint sets, they talked about how the holidays make them feel, what they are
most excited for, and traditions their families carry out. They even sang along to some holiday tunes!”
Needless to say, the year 2020 has been nothing but abnormal for all of us.
Whether it is wearing a mask, working from home, visiting family and friends
v
ia Zoom only, or simply scheduling a time slot a week in advance to take a
picture with Santa who is nine feet away and behind plexiglass; things are just
not life as we knew it. In the midst of the pandemic, we have had people who
have experienced great loss, along with the struggle to economically survive.
As we enter the 2020 holiday season, it seems like joy and comfort need to be
spread more than ever this year. There are people out there who believe much
the same, even in the most unlikely of places.
This past fall, it was a routine trip to a mechanic’s garage for an oil change that
set the wheels in motion (no pun intended) to help aid
families in need. Because this mechanic volunteered
his time to help a nonprofit group
keep their vehicles on the road,
the nonprofit group shared with
the mechanic that they had toys
to distribute to deserving children.
From there, the mechanic had a
simple conversation with a
Northern Lebanon staff member
who then linked the nonprofit
group with nurses in the Northern
Lebanon elementary schools. The
nurses provided the ages of stu-
dents from families in need. The
nonprofit group then donated a
toy to be given to each of these
children in addition to those gra-
ciously donated by Northern
Lebanon elementary faculty and
staff members each holiday season.
So, as we find ourselves trudging through the rest of 2020, remember, some of the joy and
comfort that people need during this holiday season can come from the most unlikely of
places, at any given time, or any given place. You could be the one that just happened to be
in the right place at the right time to make a positive impact.
We wish you the happiest of holidays and the best 2021 that anyone could ever have!
